Coronavirus prevention information

OLPH has received Coronavirus (COVID-19) prevention and public safety information from the Center for Disease Control, The USCCB, the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Cook County Board of Health.

Based on their recommendations, we are instituting the following preventative measures:

1) We will continue the suspension of the distribution of Holy Communion via the chalice.
2) Saliva can be a very potent form of transmission of the virus. Given the frequency of direct contact with saliva in the distribution of Holy Communion on the tongue, we need to all receive Holy Communion in open hands for the time being.
3) We need to refrain from physical contact during the Sign of Peace (note: The Sign of Peace can be exchanged without physical contact).
4) Refrain from holding hands during the Lord’s Prayer.
5) Holy Water fonts in the Church will be empty; however, Holy Water will be available in the sacristy.
6) Hand sanitizer will be available at all the exits.
7) Our maintenance staff will double down on efforts to wipe down surfaces with anti-bacterial agents, i.e. pews, door handles, bathrooms.

If you are not feeling well, you are not obligated to attend Mass. The Catholic Catechism (2181) allows you to miss Mass as a result of illness.
We are providing livestream access from our olphglenview YouTube channel to the Mass for those who are not able to attend Mass.

The CDC recommends the following actions to protect yourself and others from transmitting the Coronavirus:
1) Stay home if you are sick.
2) Wash your hands often with soap and water.
3) Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
4) Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
5) Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
6) Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue then throw the tissue away. If tissues are not available, cough or sneeze into your sleeve.

Health officials have identified the following symptoms of the Coronavirus:
1) Runny nose
2) Headache
3) Cough
4) Sore throat
5) Fever
6) A general feeling of being unwell
