Clothing Drive an Overwhelming Success

In April and May, volunteers within our Sharing Ministry coordinated a clothing drive for Mary’s Closet of Catholic Charities. The effort garnered nearly 2,000 lbs. and approximately 3,300 pieces of clothing. The staff and clients of Mary’s Closet were overwhelmed with gratitude.

Since the donation was processed, they have served over one hundred clients …and counting, provided some of the programs they serve with nearly a 1,000 articles of clothing and have inventory available to help open an additional Mary’s Closet location.

“I extend a special thank you to Father Jerry Boland, for his support and sending the OLPH collection for Mary’s Closet, which was received by his brother Monsignor Michael Boland, President and CEO of Catholic Charities. This special connection, and the OLPH collection drive, will be featured in the upcoming edition of Spirit Magazine. Please know that your huge undertaking goes beyond providing professional attire. Your gifts allow clients to present their best selves as they seek employment. OLPH has truly risen the bar for donating and for organizing collection drives. Our hope is for this to become an annual event.”
- Toyia Baker, Coordinator, Mary’s Closet

Mary’s Closet was started in 2011 by members of the Catholic Charities Board of Advisors. The program provides clients of Catholic Charities with professional business attire and personalized attention as they seek employment or begin their jobs. Professional attire is also provided for important life events, such as graduations.

Volunteer opportunities include sorting and organizing donated items, or assisting with client consultations. To volunteer, email Mary's Closet below.
