evOLve Ministry: Diversity in Early Christianity

McDonnell Hall

Featuring Jerry Leitner

As contemporary modern Catholics, we take for granted the structure and organization of today’s Catholic Church. It is tempting to think that it was all set in stone. The Eucharistic liturgy, the canon of Scripture, the structure of priesthood and hierarchy, and the creedal statements we recite at Mass all went through centuries of development, controversy and reform. Changes instituted by Vatican II demonstrate that in our own lifetimes, change and reform are challenging but necessary to keep the Church vital and relevant. Jerrol Leitner will offer to take us back to the very beginnings of Christianity when little was taken for granted, let alone formalized.
