Sacrament Preparation

All students are required to participate and prepare for a full two years in Religious Education prior to receiving a Sacrament.  Students are highly encouraged to consistently attend all classes for each year. The goal of the OLPH Religious Education Program is to provide a learning environment that builds upon the previous year for a richer more comprehensive religious education experience.

Grade Two: Reconciliation and First Communion
Recognizing God’s mercy and forgiveness is first experienced in the home, therefore the family is an integral part of the preparation for these Sacraments. The preparation for these Sacraments involves classroom discussion and participation, family involvement in worship services, and an outlined class curriculum by Benziger. Informational meetings and prayer services are held throughout the year.

Grade Eight: Confirmation
Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation involves the student’s knowledge and understanding of the basic tenets of the Catholic Church, active participation in weekly worship and willingness to be of service to those in need.

  • Seasonal material for the liturgical year.
  • Reflections on current events as they relate to our living faith.
  • Families are encouraged to join in the teaching by utilizing the Faith First website.

Additional RE Activities

  • Children’s Choir
  • Family Liturgies: children participate in monthly special family liturgies, Last Supper Re-enactments, Good Friday Service, and Baccalaureate Mass;
  • Parent Programs: informative meetings for your child's Sacramental preparation;
