July 28, 2014
Monday of week 17 in Ordinary Time

Religious Education Registration is now available for the 2014-2015 school year.  Returning families will receive the registration forms via email.  However, if you have not received yours or are new to the Religious Education Program please email Cherie DiCesare.  Be sure to complete all necessary information and return to the RE office with proper payment on or before July 15, 2014.

Please do not request class placement with a specific catechist (unless you have received prior instructions from a previous catechist) or friends.  The "mutual classrom buddy" has been omitted from the registration paperwork.

Again, this year, we will offer payment for Religious Education fees by either check or credit card.  When paying by credit card, please be sure to fill in all of the correct information under the "Payment Method" on your registration paperwork.  There will be a $5.00 transaction fee for all credit card payments.

Lastly, please be sure to check the schedule of classes found by clicking on the links to the right before registering to determine what time frame works best for your schedule.  There will be a $25.00 fee assessed per child for any change in class assignment once your registration has been procesed.  This fee also applies to changes made mid year (which are highly discouraged and not always possible).

About Religious Education

The Religious Education (RE) program of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish is essential to carrying out the Parish mission to teach and preach the gospel to all people. The program provides spiritual formation and religious education to families, which furthers the goals of the Parish.

Parents, through word and example, are the primary faith educators of their children. The RE program helps parents in their work by teaching our rich Catholic heritage and provides a basis for faith formation.

The Religious Education Program at Our Lady of Perpetual Help provides Catholic faith formation to children in grades Preschool through Eighth grade who attend the community public schools.  Our Lady of Perpetual Help along with The Archdiocese of Chicago encourages participation in all years of formation for a full and complete religious education experience.  Not attending all grade levels results in a delay of the Sacraments.

The students in Grade 1 begin the preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion and complete the preparation in Grade 2 at which time the sacraments are received. The students in Grade 7 begin the preparation for Confirmation and complete the preparation in Grade 8 at which time the sacrament is received.

This process is carried out not only by classroom discussion and teaching, but also through participation in prayer, special celebrations and worship opportunities, and service to others. In this way, the child is led to a closer relationship with God, other children, and the total Christian faith community.
