The Chicago Food Depository provides food rescue for the needy, collecting surplus food through grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, hotels, cafeterias, and food industry trade shows.
Operating since 1987, Chicago Food Depository donations are now distributed to over 600 locations – food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters. OLPH and our Sharing Parishes [1] are enrolled in this distribution program.
OLPH organizes volunteer groups to work at the Chicago Food Depository several times per year. Hours worked translate into food credit for Sharing Parish food pantries. Since food is made available for as little as seven cents per pound, $1 in credit can provide about four meals.
Contact parishioner Katie N. at 847-657-6311, to participate in our Parish involvement. Volunteers can also contact the Chicago Food Depository on their own and work individually or in groups; you may have your hours worked credited to OLPH or our Sharing Parishes [1].
