The OLPH Sharing Program’s primary goal is the collection of non-perishable food for the hungry within the communities of our four sharing parishes and within our own. The food drive is year round, 365 days per year. Donations of non-perishables can be delivered to the Sharing Room at anytime. Food certificates and financial donations for food are also welcome. Contact parishioner Lou at 847.724.2178 for more information.
Hungry, homeless people come to the rectory doors and visit the parish food pantries of our four sharing parishes daily in search of food. Our Sharing Parishes are often able to respond with brown lunch bags filled with non-perishable food provided by OLPH. These easy-to-assemble bags are donated by individuals, families, and groups. Bags contain: pre-packaged tuna or chicken salad with crackers, trail mix, peanut butter or cheese and crackers, 100% juice in box or can, dried fruit, plastic spoon and napkin, optional: candy, power bars, and granola bars. Larger sized lunch bags work best. Contact Julie for more information at 847.909.0661.
ONGOING PROGRAMS
Donations of Clothing and Household Goods
OLPH accepts donations of gently used clothing and household items for distribution to the needy. Be mindful that volunteer man-hours on the receiving and delivery end are limited. Only gently used, clean, mended goods can be accepted.
Guidelines for Donations [1]
Day Old Bread Collection
Forty OLPH volunteers collect day old bakery goods from area merchants for distribution to Sharing Parish poor. Contact Chris at 847.962.0208 for more information.
The OLPH Meal Ministry
The Meal Ministry provides temporary emergency meal assistance to families in the community in times of crisis, illness or bereavement. Referrals are made through the parish staff. Contact Joanne at 847.729.2740 to volunteer.
Seasonal Parish Drives
OLPH collects canned hams during the two weekends prior to Easter and we collect frozen turkeys before Thanksgiving. New toys are collected several weeks prior to Christmas. Hams and turkeys can be brought to church exits after Mass or to the Sharing Room [2], where toys can also be delivered.
Mother’s Day Baby Shower
New baby items - formula, clothing, diapers, and furnishings - are collected in church each Mother’s Day for distribution to needy moms. Contact parishioner Julie at 847.909.0661 for more information.
Annual OLPH Sharing Picnic
OLPH and Sharing Parish parishioners join in a summer afternoon of food, fun activities, and musical entertainment on the OLPH Parish grounds. Contact picnic chair Mike at 847.903.1642 to become involved.
Annual Service Day
During the summer, the Sharing Committee organizes a day of service activities for the entire parish. There are opportunities in Glenview and also in our Sharing Parishes' communities.
