Home Visits are Availabe

Every member of the OLPH community is encouraged to help our parish identify and reach out to the sick and isolated in our midst.  If you, a family member, or someone you know are homebound, unable to attend Mass, a trained Minister of Care will bring Holy Communion to you. Call the parish office at 847.729.1525 to make arrangements.

Anointing of the Sick

OLPH offers the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick once per month at the 8:30 am Saturday liturgy or by making an appointment with one of the priests.

CARE FOR THE SICK

Ministry of Care

The Ministry of Care is a vital aspect of Parish life because it deals with the realities of life; illness, isolation, and other areas that are part of our journey to deeper union with God. These are times when we are most vulnerable and feel that we are not in control.

Ministers of Care are dedicated, spiritual, caring, and prayerful men and women who are mandated by our Parish to care for our needy parishioners. Their ministry includes bringing the Eucharist to those parishioners who are confined to their homes, hospitals, or nursing homes. They also make pastoral visits; Ministers of Care pray with, support, and comfort parishioners in need and their families.

Preparation Needed

The work of the Ministry of Care is open to all members of the OLPH community. The Archdiocese of Chicago offers a training program that serves as a springboard for beginning the ministry. The five-session course is free of charge and serves to train new ministers in both the practical and spiritual aspects of this essential ministry. In addition there is some training that takes place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

The full course is required of all new Ministers of Care. Those who have been trained at another parish may not need to part icipate in the whole course. The training course is necessary for certification to take part in this ministry, and it is also of great value in helping ministers reflect on the theology of suffering and of the Eucharist.
